It's looking increasingly like I have a broken rib from playing footie which is hampering my pre-half marathon training. I'm currently unable to train at all, despite taking rather large doses of pain killers and anti-inflammatory. The hospital have told me it will take 3-4 weeks to heal and during which time I shouldnt do any major training, instead sticking to light jobs perhaps in a couple of weeks when the pain has eased off. It seems that the area around the ribs has a very low bloody supply and doesnt heal very quickly - it's also constantly being moved whilst breathing and never gets the opportunity to heal.
It's pretty painful and breathing deeply is a nightmare (something you kind of need to do when running). I'm going to see how it goes, re-look at the situation in another weeks time and then make a decision from there. What a bummer...

Broken Rib or Bruised Rib??
Whether I have a broken rib, or bruised rib I really don't care - either way, my ribs are hurting big time and preventing me from training. I played football last Wednesday and after a heated 3-1 bashing my ribs were left a wee bit sore. I've taken it easy for the past few days and despite lots of pain killers I'm still struggling. Not really what I needed with the Windsor Half Marathon coming up in about 4 weeks. Fingers crossed, the pain will ease and I can get back into my training regime!!!
